LEGISLATIVE AND POLICY INTERVENTIONS
Implementation of 5% Quota for Minorities – matter taken up with the Balochistan
Government.
Recommendations made to Chief Secretary Balochistan for the promotion and protection
of human rights of minorities after extensive consultations with minority leaders and
community members.
Regional Office Quetta successfully pushed for the amendment of the Balochistan
Government’s Service Rules: through Judicial cognizance, the section of job
advertisements which denoted religious requirements for sanitary work positions was
removed. The requisite notification was issued by the Balochistan Government on 4th
May 2022.
Recommended the Balochistan Government to take measures for the amendment of
Balochistan Civil Services Pension Rules 1989 regarding beneficiaries.
Lobbied for wetting of long-awaited Early Child Marriage Restraint Act from Balochistan
Assembly.
Review of Balochistan Home-Based Workers Act, 2022.
Review of the Mines Act, 1923.
Review of Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2018.
Guided the Balochistan Government to establish a Mental Health Care Centre in Quetta.
Advised the Environment Protection Agency Balochistan regarding the removal of crush
plants from Quetta city.
NCHR intervened and sent a letter to Pakistan Medical Commission based on its decision
to not register 600 medical students in Balochistan after the completion of their degree.
After NCHR’s intervention the students were registered.
MEETING WITH GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENTS & INTERNATIONAL AGENCIES:
Member Balochistan meeting with Chief Secretary Balochistan.
Meeting with AIG Gender Cell Balochistan Police to follow up on gender-based violence
cases in Balochistan.
Several meetings with Director General Human Rights Government of Balochistan for
collaboration on the protection and promotion of human rights in Balochistan.
