Sixteen weeks into that situation, they had been surviving on liquid extract from boiled rice, mashed tea leaves and chilies. The lone hospital in the tea garden had been remaining closed for the last six months. Children of labourers had to stop going to school. The labourers lodged complaints in NHRC. The case was taken seriously by the Commission. It instantly sent an investigation team led by the member Md. Nazrul Islam and 31 Nurun Naher Osmani. The team visited the spot instantly, met the victims, saw the situation for themselves and talked with local administration. They reported to the Commission that the rights of the labourers of Boikunthapur Tea Estate were violated. NHRC called a full bench hearing for resolving the problem. The owner party of the Tea Estate attended the hearing in time and after thorough discussion on the matter they came to terms to settle the matter amicably. Consequently, they signed paper giving an undertaking to pay all the due wages and ration to the labourers. They instantly paid wages for two weeks. They promised to pay rest of the due wages by October 2016. Meanwhile, an order was passed from NHRC to the owners to comply with the commitments made. Moreover, DC, Habiganj has been asked to monitor the functioning of the tea garden hospitals. Besides, DC office has also been asked to expedite the repair of the road of the tea garden. NHRC also asked the Joint Director of Labour, the Department of Labor's Office, to take measures so that there cannot be repetition of the complaint.
