Data provided by the jail authorities is confusing as internal transfers
within the jail are also deemed as new tenures. Without access to the
entire service record of an officer, it is difficult to calculate how long
that officer has served at a particular prison.
•
Little or no training of jail staff - from 2021 to 2022, only two officials of Adiala Jail
received training at NAPA in the last 18 months. (NAPA record of training is attached
as Annex C)
Situations of Juvenile Prisoners
•
•
•
•
Juveniles are housed in separate barracks, and not in Juvenile Rehabilitation
Centers as per Sec 20 of JJSA 2018
Total number of Juvenile prisoners is 82
There are 79 juveniles under trial
There are 29 juveniles without legal representation. This is in contravention to
Sec 3 (1) of JJSA 2018 which states; “Legal assistance. Every juvenile or a
child who is victim of an offence shall have the right of legal assistance at
expense of the State.”
