Other policy interventions by NCHR include:           Letters were written to DPOs of different districts of Punjab to urge them to establish minority facilitation units for the protection of rights of minorities. NCHR took up the issue of implementation of minimum wages of janitorial staff and as a result NCHR has received compliance reports from several organisations. NCHR took up cases of desecration of Ahmadiyya worship places and graveyards. (NHCR’s visit to an Ahmadiyya place of worship pictured below) NCHR took up the issue of Single National Curriculum and with civil society members examined the text books of Punjab text Board under SNC and found the religious content in the compulsory subjects. Hearing has been convened in this regard by Member Minorities. NCHR worked on the reinstatement of 500 dismissed CDA employees who were then reinstated as per CDA’s report. NCHR took up the case of 14 Christian daily wagers of Municipal Committee Shahiwal – the Commission’s intervention resulted in the regularisation of the workers. NCHR wrote a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner to change the date of local body elections which were scheduled on Christmas day. After the intervention of the Minority Office the date was changed. NCHR made policy recommendations to Chief Secretary Punjab for the setting up of Provincial and District Child Protection Committees. NCHR was successful in getting the Punjab Government’s Service Rules amended by deleting the column of religion in the job advertisements for sanitary workers through judicial cognisance. The requisite notification was issued by the Punjab Government on 25th May, 2022. NCHR made policy recommendations to Federal Public Service Commission to take measures for amendment in its preliminary examination pattern which puts religious minorities at a disadvantage. The Federal Public Service Commission in response to NCHR Recommendations dated 5th September, 2022 have reported that requisite measures would be taken at the earliest. 17
