The Child Rights Committee of NHRC had
separate meetings with the Ministry of Social Welfare, Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, Ministry of Primary and Mass
Education and Ministry of Labour and Employment during 2012 discuss these issues.
The NHRC learned that the Government
approved a draft bill which incorporated
the recommendations made by the NHRC
defining a child as an individual below the
age of 18 years, establishing a separate
desk at each policy station to deal with the
offences against children, setting up of a
juvenile court in each district so that no
child would be tried by any court other
than the juvenile court.
During 2012 the NHRC also advocated for
the establishment of the Office of the Child
Ombudsman and ratification of OP3-CRC.

The NHRC analysed and made
recommendations on the draft Act on the
Rights of Persons with Disabilities 2011.
