CHAPTER 2 MoU Signing Ceremony between The Commission and UPSI in Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (b) Collaboration with Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) In 2011, the first MoU between the Commission and UKM was signed. One of the ultimate aims was to enhance human rights awareness and knowledge among students and academicians. On 11 April, the Commission and UKM renewed the MoU in a ceremony that was held in the Chancellery Building, UKM. The objective of the renewed MoU was to enhance, encourage, and develop mutual cooperation pertaining to human rights, involving education, research, attachment of students, and establishment of a Human Rights Unit (HRU). One of the positive outcomes from the MoU with UKM is the establishment of a HRU managed by the Centre of International Law and Siyar (CILAS), Faculty of Law, UKM. Among the functions of this unit is to organise programmes and conduct studies related to human rights. With the establishment of this unit, the bigger objective is for the unit to be developed and transformed into a Human Rights Centre (HR Centre) in the future.
