HUMAN RIGHTS MODULE FOR PRIMARY SCHOOL Reference notes for the teacher: Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) Article 1 Everyone under the age of eighteen is recognised as a child. Article 2 Every child has rights and it is the responsibility of the government to ensure that all children are protected from any form of discrimination. Article 6 Every child has the right to life and governments must do all they can to ensure that children survive and develop to their full potential. Article 7 Every child has the right to a name and nationality. Article 12 Every child has the right to express his/her views freely in all matters affecting him/her. Article 14 Governments must respect the right of the child to freedom of thought, conscience and religion, subject to guidance from the parents. Article 16 Every child has the right to protection from interference with his/ her privacy, family, residence, correspondence and from attacks on his/her honour and reputation. Article 23 A child with a disability has the right to education and special training to enjoy a full and decent life and independence, as far as possible, and to play an active part in the community. Article 24 Every child has the right to the best possible health and medical treatment and it is the responsibility of the government to provide good quality healthcare for him/her.
