Complaint No. Dha-125/22 Sadia (pseudonym) lodged complaint that her father died when she was only two years old. Her paternal uncle did not let her enjoy her property rights. He didn’t allow her to get all the property of her father in which she had her rights. NHRC sent letter to UNO, Sokhipur, Tangail to investigate and take appropriate action, The UNO reported that they had settled the dispute peacefully and Sadia got her father’s property accordingly. 3.8 Remarkable Activities NHRC condemned authorities concerned for having a political leader, attend his mother's funeral in handcuffs and shackles in Gazipur Ali Azam was arrested on 2 December in Kaliakair upazila, Gazipur on 29 November. Ali Azam requested the district administrator to release him on parole to attend the funeral rites of his mother who died on 18 December from old-age-complications. He was granted a three-hour parole but, contrary to legal provisions, was kept in handcuffs and shackles, and despite pleas to remove those during the funeral prayer, the police allegedly did not budge. The commission thinks that keeping a prisoner in handcuffs and shackles after being released on parole to attend his mother's funeral is not only inhumane but also against the constitution and fundamental human rights of Bangladesh. NHRC called upon authorities concerned to take appropriate legal action against those involved in this incident and to be careful in taking appropriate steps in such cases in the future to prevent the recurrence of such incidents. Humane disaster in flood affected area of Sylhet, Sunamganj, Kurigram Former Chairman of NHRC Nasima Begum, ndc called on all the concerned authorities to take action for minimizing the sufferings of people in flood affected areas of Sylhet, Sunamganj, Kurigram. She also called on focusing on protecting human rights in all the actions taken in this regard. Media reported that thousands of people in Sylhet and Sunamganj were waiting to be rescued from flood water. But their relatives could not make the rescue trip on vessels due to excessive boat fares being charged in this dire situation. Boat owners and middlemen were claiming TK 50,000 for the trip. A man named Maroof Ahmed faced such situation while trying to bring his pregnant wife from their village to Sylhet.
