Complaint No.- Dha.162/21 Mr.’X’ lodged complaint that Joint Venture SDRB & SINOHYDRO company detained all Bangladeshi employees since the outbreak of Covid-19. No employee could get out of the company’s own living place. They could not tolerate this and asked for NHRC’s intervention. Replying to NHRC’s letter, Inspector General of the Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishment informed that they organized a hearing and in that hearing it was decided that the company would allow its employees to work from home, they were allowed to leave the dormatory in which they were being detained. NHRC verified the matter and found true. Complaint No. Cha-42/19 BLAST drew attention of NHRC to the media report on corporal punishment. Media reported that a female student in Sunamganj could not solve a math and that is why teacher punished and told her to stand up looking at the sun. The student could not tolerate extreme hot and became senseless. While she got sense she screamed and lost her sense again. Her family claimed that she lost her mental stability. In replying to NHRC’s letter, the UNO informed that the allegation proved true and as a result, the teacher permanently suspended and fined 20,000 taka. Complaint No. Khu.14/21 Media reported that 84 years old Khalil Sheikh was living under sky with his paralysed old wife and leading a miserable life. Their four married daughters did not maintain any communication with them. He had got age-old allowance card but did not know if the allowance was transferred to his account through mobile banking. NHRC sent letter to UNO, Shalikha, Magura to rehabilitate the old couple and to upazilla Social Welfare Officer of Shalikha, Magura to give them financial assistance and proper treatment. The UNO informed that the couple was provided with 61,000 BDT as financial assistance and proper treatment was going on. A house was also built for them with the help of local people. Complaint No. B. 06/21 Jamir (pseudonym)lodged complaint that due to land acquisition for payra sea port, his house, trees, pond and fishing areas were being destroyed. He lodged complaint to Deputy Commissioner. However, no solution was given. So, he wanted NHRC’s intervention. As per NHRC’s recommendation, the Deputy Commissioner reported that Mr. Jamir was provided with 10 lakh BDT, a house and a shop for rehabilitation purpose.
