HUMAN RIGHTS MODULE FOR
SECONDARY SCHOOL
Implementation steps
Activity 1
1. The students are informed by the teacher that the activity will be symbolic of a
network that represents the love between them and the people they love.
2. In carrying out the activity, the group will build a ‘spider’s web’ using the balls of string
provided.
3. The students are asked to form a circle comprising 20 students per group. The first
student who is given a ball of string will say, “Loving someone means ... I do not hurt
his/her feelings.” He/She will then throw the ball to the classmate opposite him/her.
4. The activity is repeated until all the students have had a turn and have formed a
spider’s web.
5. The students are asked to think of a situation that can destroy a relationship (for
example, with a close friend, a family member, boyfriend/girlfriend).
6. Each time a student replies, he/she will cut the string connecting him/her to another
classmate. Repeat until the spider’s web is destroyed.
