Report on the Assessment of the Compliance of the Correction and Rehabilitation Centers in Palestine with International Prison Standards • Women’s Detention Center: The Jericho CRC complies to a certain degree with international standards for the detention of women, which was 2.1. Detained women are isolated in separate sections away from men, and the women’s section is headed by a female staff member. It is forbidden for women to be inspected by male employees. Infants are allowed to stay with their detained mothers and a nursery dedicated to these children is provided. All sanitary supplies for women are provided periodically. Pregnant women detainees give birth at civilian hospitals. Physical contact between the detained mothers and their children is permitted during the visit. However, the CRC does not provide a female clinic for female inmates that is independent of the general medicine clinic, nor is there a female doctor for this purpose. Despite the presence of a nursery inside the CRC, there are no female staff inside the nursery and female inmates are dedicated for this purpose. In addition, the trainers of vocational training and education programs are often men. There is also a lack of coordination and networking with civil and community institutions for the purpose of rehabilitating women before their release and training them to take care of themselves after their release. Reception and accommodation facilities are not compatible for the requirements of women with disabilities. • Juvenile detention center: There were no juveniles at the time of assessment.
