Most New Zealanders enjoy a high quality of life and experience good outcomes.
However, a small proportion continue to experience poor outcomes across a range of
indices, including material deprivation, housing, education, health, employment and
imprisonment.

Recent research from the University of Victoria, Wellington shows that there has been
some success in reducing inequality for Māori and Pacific people. However, many
indicators investigated in the study show worsening or static outcomes over the last
decade.4 Reproduced below is a summary of the findings:
