The chapter explains to students how living things grow, defines reproduction as the process of producing young ones and brief them about reproduction in animals and plants. It mentions that some animals lay eggs while some give birth, however it does not mention how humans reproduce. Chapter 4, ‘Humans and their Health’, introduces students to the organs of our body, however it does not mention sex organs. Also the chapter introduces students to all the systems in our body including, skeletal system, respiratory system and circulatory system. However, there is no mention of the reproductive system. Key Stage 2 Chapter 1 consists of the topic ‘We Grow and Change’ in which students are taught about the different stages of human growth from birth till they attain adulthood. Grade 4 The topic ‘Parents and Offspring’ highlights the physical similarities and differences between parents and their children. This topic is one in which students can be given more information about reproduction, since it can explain a lot about why there are similarities and differences between parents and their children. However, no further explanations are given as to how and why the changes occur. Grade 5 The topic ‘Human Body changes’, introduces students to Puberty and body changes. The topic gives explanations on the changes that occur in the body of girls and boys during puberty. Students are taught about the importance of personal hygiene especially during puberty.
