B. Spreading the Culture of Business and Human Rights
Since the 1990's, with the growing number and influence of
multinational corporations in the wake of globalization, human rights
violations by companies have been on top of the agenda in the
international
community.
In
response,
international
organizations
including the United Nations and the OECD began to seek various
measures
including,
for
instance,
guidelines
to
prevent
business
enterprises from violating human rights. The NHRCK, on its part,
designated Spreading Human Rights Culture in Business Management
as its featured project in its 2012-2014 Action Plan for the Promotion of
Human Rights. In this regard, the Commission put forward with the
targets for the year 2013 including creating social rapport with regard
to corporate responsibility to respect human rights, and establishing the
legal and institutional foundation for respecting human rights by
corporate management.
The NHRCK published, in March 2013, A Report on Business and
Human Rights as an effort to promote the corporate awareness of
human rights in the environment and to seek for desirable policy
alternatives of government. The efforts of the Commission reached
further to the hosting of a forum on business and human rights for the
experts of all walks of life and business executives to widely spread the
importance of business and human rights across the board and to
promote the corporate awareness of human rights. In addition, the
Commission encouraged business enterprises to check up on their
compliance with human rights management standards by developing
