During visit it seemed that the spot, where Tonu's body had been found, looked unusually clean. It can be appeared that some evidence might have been tampered with. If that is true it might hamper the investigation process. So, whoever did this must be punished. During visit, we saw that the soil of the place of occurrence was taken away and after that from media report we have known members of RAB did this. So, it is questionable that though RAB has no authority to do that why and by which authority they have done this. Visit to Dhaka Medical College Hospital to meet Babul Matabbar’s family On 4 February 2016, Professor Dr. Mizanur Rahman, Former Chairman, NHRC visited Dhaka Medical College Hospital to meet with tea vendor Babul Matabbar, who had suffered severe burns in an incident involving police, died from his injuries on 4 February 2016 after fighting death for around 16 hours. NHRC chairman has slammed the policemen involved in the incident for not sending the victim to the hospital immediately after he was burnt. "They have set a prime example of moral bankruptcy and corruption. The state must ensure justice for this crime," he told the press after visiting Babul's family at the DMCH. The audacity of the police had crossed all limits and this should be stopped immediately, he commented. He also said, "A citizen has lost his life due to police's illegal activities and arrogance … A tea seller had to die for failing to pay them … We don't need such policemen in the country" He urged the home minister to "ensure justice and not let the incident to be misled." Visit to Jamal Hossain’s home On 29 February 2016, Professor Dr. Mizanur Rahman, Former Chairman, NHRC visited Jamal Hossain’s home. Mr. Jamal was a retired government employer who fled to India for facing threat to his life. The root cause of this was the property conflict with his siblings who wanted to grab his property by force. They threatened him and attacked him to kill and he was compelled to flee to India and did not have the courage to inform his family about the place where he hid himself. His family was searching for him and went to the police station to lodge complaint about his missing. They thought he was kidnapped. But police did not take any complaint. They came to National Human Rights Commission (NHRC). NHRC issued notices to the police and RAB forces to find him. After 75 days, Mr. Jamal Hossain was found in Khulna in 21 February 2016. He confessed that he fled due to the threat to life and he faces insecurity. NHRC Chairman Professor Dr. Mizanur Rahman visited his home to meet him and make an impact. He gave him courage and talked with Officer in Charge of the Shah Ali Thana, Mirpur. He also talked with media. 16
