Foreword from the Chairman We know that living with dignity by birth is the main theme of UDHR 1948. Human Rights is eternal and universal which is not confined by any border of any country. 30 articles of UDHR ensure that a human being has equal rights regardless of religion, caste, gender, age, ethnicity, disability and place of birth. Rights and responsibility are complementary to each other. The Father of our nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman fought for human rights throughout his life. The preamble of our constitution states that the fundamental aim of the State is to be realized through the democratic process of a socialist society, free from exploitation- a society in which rule of law, fundamental human rights and freedom, equality and justice, political, economic and social, will be secured for all citizens. 3rd Chapter of our constitution clearly explains fundamental human rights which is similar to the UDHR. NHRC’s mission is to create human rights culture around the country. So, Commission pays attention to wherever human rights violations occur. The Commission has 12 thematic committees for resolving humane crises. During Covid crisis Commission continued its activities through WhatsApp group and e-File management on several human rights violation cases. It sent recommendations to the government and actions were taken accordingly. We have organized essay competition throughout the country to create awareness on human rights among students, parents and teachers from root to center. This year the essay competition titled “Liberation War, Independence and Humane Values” in which around 1.5 lac students of class 09-12 participated. 100 winners are being provided with 2000 BDT monthly as human rights scholarship.
