The Independent Commission for Human Rights
In light of the new status of Palestine in the United Nations, the ICHR is certain to be
influenced by it, and this is especially so since it is the Palestinian national human rights
institution with “A” status at the ICC, and committed to the Paris Principles. Its role is
to back and support Palestine to ratify and sign international human rights treaties and
provide advice to ensure continued compliance with the national human rights related
legislation and assist the government in writing reports on the situation of human rights.
It shall also prepare shadow reports and contribute to the UPR and the implementation
of the recommendations put forward by the UN agencies and bodies. Cooperation with
the government, parliament, and judicial authorities’ special rapporteurs and civil society
organizations will take place in order to prompt, support, and expand the promotion and
protection of human rights.
