We participated in regional and international events During 2021-2022, we participated in a range of human rights events and conferences at the regional and international level, including: • Participating in the European Union ParliamentNHRI Roundtable on EU Guidelines on Human Rights Defenders • • Delivering a presentation to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Human Rights Education in Practice Programme • Contributing to a training session on NHRIs and the GANHRI accreditation process to the Bangsamoro Human Rights Commission, in the Philippines, in collaboration with UNHCR in collaboration with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. • Meeting with representatives from the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to assist in the formulation of polices on NHRIs facing reprisals for their work Participating in the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) 21st Seminar on Climate Change We strengthened connections with regional mechanisms The APF’s Inter-Governmental Mechanisms (IGM) Project, funded by the European Union, commenced in July 2020 with the aim of building and strengthening relationships between NHRIs in the South-East Asia and Pacific sub-regions with their respective IGMs: the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) and the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF). 18 between NHRIs and IGMs to build their engagement and collaboration and contribute to a joint outcomes document. This included a virtual dialogue in June 2022, between representatives from Southeast Asian NHRIs and AICHR to strengthen common understandings and identify opportunities for collaboration and cooperation. Unlike other regions of the world, the Asia Pacific does not have a regional human rights mechanism for addressing rights violations. Building relationships and links between organisations is therefore vital to addressing some of the key human rights issues facing the region. We also held a three-day workshop for NHRIs in Bangkok, Thailand in late June 2022 to develop national action plans on the promotion and protection of the right to a healthy environment in the context of climate change, including how NHRIs can further engage and collaborate with AICHR on these issues. During 2021-22, IGM Project activities included a combination of blended learning courses, online communities of practice and a small grants program to develop NHRI capacity and assist targeted national projects. The activities also included the facilitation of dialogues In the Pacific, we continued to support NHRIs to build and strengthen their relationship with the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat and Pacific Community through information exchange, meetings and events.
