Drug Dependent Persons (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act No. 54 of 2007 This Act sets out provisions for the mandatory treatment and rehabilitation of drug dependent persons by order of the court. 20. National Dangerous Drugs Control Board Act No. 11 of 1984 This Act, which established the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board, specifies the mandate of the Board to provide rehabilitation and treatment for drug offenders. These provisions were used to study existing options to treat drug addiction as a health and social issue rather than a criminal issue. 21. Poisons, Opium and Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, No. 17 of 1929 This Ordinance stipulates offences related to the sale and possession of poison, opium and other dangerous drugs. Provisions of the Bail Act are not applicable to Section 54 of this Act, which is an offence for which many remandees interviewed as part of the study were charged. 28
