MINORITY RIGHTS
Meeting held with Ms. Merry James Gill and Mr. Asif Aqeel, representatives from the Center
for Law & Justice Network. Various issues pertaining to minorities were discussed as well as
NCHR’s actions against the illegal advertisement by the government departments regarding
the posts of sanitary workers.
A meeting was held to discuss the rights of minorities with representatives of the National
Commission for Justice & Peace.
NCHR Punjab team attended AWAZ II multi-stakeholders’ consultation on Social Cohesion
& Equality of Marginalised groups organised by PJN.
Consultative meeting attended by Member Punjab and Member Minorities on Rights of
Minorities in Faisalabad in collaboration with South Asia Partnership (SAP).
Meeting held with delegation of Pakistan Bible Correspondence. Issues pertaining to
minorities were discussed.
Member Punjab attended a Provincial Policy Dialogue on promoting decent working
conditions for sanitary workers at Center for Public Policy at FCCU, Lahore. NCHR’s efforts
to put an end to discrimination against sanitary workers were also highlighted
RIGHTS OF MARGINALISED GROUPS (TRANSGENDER)
Attended a consultation on Transgender Rights and Bill arranged by Good Thinkers
Organization. The community asked for quick action by the provincial government to pass
the pending bill. The issues with the police department were also highlighted.
Meeting with Ms. Jannat Ali, Trans Rights Activist was held at Regional Office Lahore. Issues
regarding transgender rights were discussed at length especially regarding violence against
the community, issues regarding NADRA enrolment, harassment, and the delays in passing
the Punjab Transgender Act.
Regional Office Punjab in collaboration with South Asia Partnership arranged a consultation
with transgender community members and government departments on International
Transgender Day of Visibility 2022. Issues pertaining to the community including violence,
issues regarding NADRA registration, and the pending provincial Transgender Bill were
discussed.
NCHR Punjab team attended a focus group discussion on Punjab Social Protection Authority
drafted Transgender Policy Punjab.
Attended a seminar on transphobia arranged by Good Thinkers Organization. NCHR’s
mandate was introduced to the community along with its human rights complaint
mechanism to address hate crimes against the community.
NCHR Punjab team attended a seminar organised by Bonded Labour Liberation Front in
connection with International Day of Labours.
Attended a consultation on Transgender Protection Act 2018 in Islamabad organised by the
International Commission of Jurists.
