Inspected the Karachi Company Police Station (G9) of Islamabad Police and the Kohsar Police
Station of Islamabad Police (F-7) to oversee the following areas:
Hygiene condition of lockups.
Capacity of lockups and number of inmates
Availability of female section in Police station
Availability of Juvenile Section in Police station
Juvenile desk in Police Station
Food, water, lighting, heating and ventilation
Training of police station staff members
Mode of investigation
Ensure detainee safety
Treatment of Detainees with Specific Needs
Detainees belonging to the transgender community
LEGISLATIVE/POLICY INTERVENTIONS
Member Minority took suo moto notice of the expulsion of four Ahmadi students from a
school in Attock through an order signed by Principal of Educators Branch in Mithial. The
students were reinstated as a result of NCHR’s intervention.
Minority Office raised concerns regarding the non-implementation of the 5% employment
quota reserved for minorities, as well as the discriminatory advertisements posted for
minorities. As a result, government departments started to implement and publish job ads
with 5% job quota for minorities.
Letters were written to DPOs of different districts of Punjab to urge them to establish
minority facilitation units for the protection of rights of minorities.
Minority office took up the issue of implementation of minimum wages of janitorial staff
and as a result NCHR has received compliance reports from several organisations.
Minority office took up cases of desecration of worship places and graveyards which were
resolved by the intervention of Commission.
Minority Office took up the issue of Single National Curriculum and with civil society
members examined the text books of Punjab text Board under SNC and found the religious
content in the compulsory subjects. Hearing has been convened in this regard by Member
Minorities.
Member Minority worked on the reinstatement of 500 dismissed CDA employees who were
then reinstated as per CDA’s report.
Minority Office took up the case of 14 Christian daily wagers of Municipal Committee
Shahiwal – the Commission’s intervention resulted in the regularisation of the workers.
