World Press Freedom Day Pakistan is currently ranked 157th out of 180 countries in the Reporters Without Borders’ (RSF) 2022 World Press Freedom Index. Cases of censorship for journalists who dare to broach subjects deemed off limits have been subjected to harassment campaigns.1 International media bodies have expressed concerns about the shrinking space for media freedoms in Pakistan and greater restrictions. In 2022, the theme for World Press Freedom Day was ‘Journalism Under Surveillance’. In this regard, NCHR sought messages from prominent journalists across Pakistan to share what they believed and outlined the challenges they face in reporting.
