• review and incorporate specific gender equality and gender mainstreaming questions in the
check list currently used by the APF in its assessment process
• consider gender balanced representation on assessment team and inclusion of persons with
gender expertise in the assessment team and report on the reasons why there may be all one
gender on assessment teams in activity reports.
• collect evidence that the NHRI has demonstrated it has mainstreamed gender – through strategic
planning, mainstreaming guidelines, employment practices and advice to governments on
legislation and, if not, make recommendations to the NHRI to do so
• collect and report sex-disaggregated data
• assess level of diversity and pluralism in the NHRI’s membership and staffing (from administrative
through to senior staffing levels) and commission members
• understand if the NHRI has a working definition of ‘gender mainstreaming’ and, if not, promote
the APF gender mainstreaming definition
• include specific questions on what gender mainstreaming measures are employed
• identify specific recommendations on gender issues and gender mainstreaming
• include in the official capacity assessment report a specific section on assessment of gender
equality and mainstreaming efforts and recommendations for improvement
• include specific questions on what gender mainstreaming measures are employed.
