HUMAN RIGHTS MODULE FOR
SECONDARY SCHOOL
Implementation steps
1. The students are free to compile pictures related to child abuse, religious festivals,
cultural celebrations, leisure, work, etc (refer to appendix).
2. The students are divided into groups of five (5).
Activity 1
1. Each group is asked to choose one relevant picture.
2. The groups are asked to examine the picture they have chosen carefully and to
discuss the following questions:
Questions on universality:
• Express your views regarding the picture (for example: at work, religious ceremony,
abuse, festival).
•
Relate what you see in the picture to what you have experienced or witnessed.
•
Describe the reactions of the people in the picture.
•
State the differences between you and the people in the picture in terms of values,
hopes and needs in life.
•
State the similarities between you and the people in the picture in terms of values,
hopes and needs in life.
•
Provide evidence that is available on the issues of abuse, special privileges or
discrimination based on gender, ethnicity or economic status.
Questions regarding human dignity:
• Does the picture depict human dignity?
•
How would this picture be different if it was taken 10 years ago? In your opinion, has
human dignity undergone changes?
•
If yes, in your opinion, what has happened to bring about the changes?
•
Does this picture contribute to the effort of appreciating human dignity?
•
What is the connection between human dignity and human rights?
Activity 2
Group representatives put up the pictures on the wall and the students gather in front of
the pictures.
Questions:
• What similar characteristics are there in the pictures?
•
What human rights characteristics are there in the pictures?
•
Based on the pictures, what statements can you make on “human dignity” and
“human rights”?
