Fasoha Aishath, Gender Equality and Capacity Development Manager (APF Human Rights Community-led Development Activity Report, 16 April 2025) Strengthening NHRI capability on torture prevention through online learning In early 2025, The APF and APT built on lessons from the national programme with Thailand to design and deliver a regional online course on torture prevention for NHRI staff in May 2025. The course combined four self-paced modules with live discussions on international standards, the role of NHRIs under OPCAT, safeguards in places of deprivation of liberty and the Méndez Principles on effective interviewing. Sixty-five staff from 19 NHRIs participated in the programme with participants reporting increased knowledge and confidence to integrate torture prevention into monitoring visits, internal training and advocacy for OPCAT ratification and implementation. 18 APF Annual Report 2024-25
