Introduction 1. As part of its ongoing research to understand the challenges faced by older persons, the Commission decided to hold a half day Seminar on Care Services for Older Persons and Support for Caregivers in the country namely Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak. Pursuant thereto, the Research and Policy Development Division with the collaboration of the Commission Sabah, organised the second of such seminar in Sabah on 24 September 2013 at the Promenade Hotel in Kota Kinabalu. 2. Several speakers from Government agencies and civil society organisations were invited to provide information regarding the state of care services for older persons. These included En. Jais Bin Asri from the Sabah Social Welfare Department (Jabatan Perkhidmatan Kebajikan Am Sabah) and assisted by Puan Natalie Gaban from the same department, Dr. Sharon Lim from the Sabah State Health Department, Mr. Wilferd Lingham from Persatuan Warga Emas Sabah and En. Syarulnizam Salleh, the Secretary of Sabah Law Association. 3. 97 participants comprising representatives from Government, civil societies and operators of old folks home attended the seminar. 4. The Vice Chair of the Commission, Datuk Dr. Khaw Lake Tee delivered the opening remarks and moderated the second session of the half day seminar, while, Commissioner Mr. Nordin Kasim Madating, moderated the first session.
