Introduction 1. Considering that issues concerning older persons are becoming prominent internationally and locally, the Research and Policy Development Division (RPDD) decided to conduct a seminar on care services for older persons and support for caregivers with the following objectives:a. To have an overview of the care services provided by the government as well as other stakeholders to older persons; b. To identify the support provided by the government and other stakeholders to the caregivers; c. To analyse existing challenges and issues that affect the standards of care provided by caregivers caring for the older persons in the care centres of both government and private; d. To deliberate on the necessity of introducing national legislation to protect the rights of older persons; and e. To formulate recommendations which are practical and implementable. 2. Four presenters from various institutions were invited to share information on the theme. The Seminar was divided into two sessions, the first session was moderated by Prof. Dato’ Dr. Aishah Bidin and the second session by Datuk Dr. Khaw Lake Tee. The presenters for the first session were Puan Ruhaini Binti Haji Zawawi from Social Welfare Department and Dr. Molly Cheah from Primary Care Doctors’ Organisation; while for second session were Dr. Rahimah Ibrahim from Institute of Gerontology, UPM and Ms. Ranuga Devy an Advocate and Solicitor and Hon. Secretary of Malaysian Healthy Ageing Society. A total of 59 participants from various agencies including the Government, civil society organisations and private care centres attended the seminar.
