PROMOTION AND OUTREACH During the year, SUHAKAM continued to discharge its core mandate of raising awareness of human rights through a range of outreach programmes and partnerships with various stakeholders in Malaysia. 1. Protection against torture and other cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment or punishment a) UNCAT Programmes with various stakeholders As a follow-up to dialogues on the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (UNCAT) held from 5 - 7 July 2017, SUHAKAM organised another series of UNCAT programmes from 2 - 5 July 2018 in Kuala Lumpur with Malaysian Islamic groups and religious authorities, MPs and various government agencies, as well as Minister of Foreign Affairs Dato’ Saifuddin Abdullah.
