society and impinges on the right of prisoners and their families to a decent life. In its view, the ICHR recommends that the Palestinian government exert pressure on the international community, make serious efforts on all levels, support the pursuit of ending the protracted Israeli military occupation of the Palestinian territory since 1967, establish the State of Palestine’s sovereignty over the Palestinian territory, and protect the Palestinian people’s right to life and self-determination. The Palestinian government should call on the High Contracting Parties to the 1949 Geneva Conventions to intervene and oblige the occupying Power to respect the Geneva Conventions, honour relevant legal obligations, and enforce international conventions, to which it is a party, to the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt), including East Jerusalem. The UN Special Rapporteur on Arbitrary Detention should be called to visit Palestinian prisoners in Israeli detention centres and closely view their living conditions and Israeli policies against them. Pressure will be placed on Israel to put an end to unjustified arbitrary detention without charge or trial, particularly administrative detention, arrest of children, systematic practices and unjust laws against Palestinian detained persons. The Palestinian government should work seriously towards lifting the Israeli crippling siege on the Gaza Strip, open all crossing points to the movement of persons and goods, allow easy access for patients to medical treatment outside Gaza, and facilitate the entry of food supplies, medicines, construction materials and fuel in order to end the humanitarian crisis. The Gaza population will be enabled to enjoy human rights enshrined in all international human rights conventions and charters. The Palestinian government should intensify diplomatic efforts and target United Nations member States to exercise pressure on the occupying State to immediately suspend all settlement activity in the oPt and enforce UN Security Council Resolution 2334 on settlement activity.
