Outcomes (short-term) The NHRC has observed the following short-term outcomes because of these activities: • victims are, rescued and released with initial cash assistance, • victims are taken to a safer place or repatriated to their respective native places and are supported in rehabilitation programs, • research project helps to develop new approaches for targeted action plans to eradicate the problem, • research project helps to develop new schemes and targeted action plans to eradicate the problem, • identified victims are made aware about their rights, • participating authorities are sensitised on bonded or forced labour. Outcome (long-term) The cases of Bonded Labour drastically reduced, especially the traditional type of cases. Political support and participation of Civil Society Organizations, NGOs have increased with the NHRC on this issue. Reflection Based on the experiences gained from the complaint redressal mechanism, the NHRC has observed persisting issues with the Bonded Labour abolition from the society and long-term measures are required to be taken, especially as new types of bonded labour issues are emerging. However, through this work, the NHRC is now better equipped to deal with such problems. 87
