period from 2012 until 2015.44 This shows that bullying is another human rights issue affecting children in school. However, the number of cases is still considered huge. Hence, the Commission plans on initiating a new programme focusing on the issue of bullying. For a start, the Commission has decided to focus on boarding schools. MARA Junior Science College (MJSC) was chosen for the pilot project. CHAPTER 2 NO. The Commission has visited a total of 14 MJSC schools to date. At first, the Commission planned to visit at least 20 MJSC schools in 2016. However, due to a few challenges, the plans had to change. Among the challenges were: i) Very few schools reverted with confirmed dates. ii) Some schools refused to choose a date, and there was even one school that refused to be visited. iii) The main component of these visits was the Commission’s two-hour talk session with the students. The topics covered during this talk were: iv) A brief introduction of the Commission’s role, functions, and powers. v) The basic concept of human rights and child rights. vi) The definition of bullying. vii) Types of bullying; and viii) The impact of bullying and ways to overcome it. The number of students who attended these talks ranged between 5001000 for each school, depending on the size of the student population and their availability. Some schools were unable to gather their entire student population due to clashes with assignments or other activities.
