On the 10th anniversary of the International Day of the Girl Child, NCHR ran a campaign focusing on the right to education for girls. The campaign highlighted how even though Article 25A of the Constitution of Pakistan asserts that the state shall provide free education to all children, 12 million girls are out of school and only 13% reach grade nine. The campaign also referred to a rapid needs assessment conducted by the International Rescue Committee (IRC) and the Medical Emergency and Resilience Foundation (MERF) which identified adolescent girls as one of the most vulnerable groups affected by the 2022 floods in Pakistan. International Day to End Impunity against Journalists The issue of safety of journalists and security of media remained a serious challenge throughout the year. In its latest report on impunity of crimes against journalists, Freedom Network – a Pakistani media rights watchdog – documented cases of journalists murdered (Ishtiaq Sodhero of Rajanour and Iftikhar Ahmed, of Daily Express from Charsadda) and assaulted during the year. NCHR ran a campaign with Digital Rights Foundation (DRF) on the International Day to End Impunity against Journalists. In a country where there are constant attacks on the freedom of expression, the goal of this campaign was to map out a timeline of attacks against journalists in Pakistan and to make online and offline spaces safer for journalists. NCHR and DRF’s complaint cell for female journalists was emphasised as a resource for journalists, as well as joint policy recommendations from DRF’s Cyber Harassment Helpline 2022 Policy Brief. 35
