World Day Against Child Labour NCHR ran an awareness campaign on the issue of child labour in Pakistan where approximately 3.3 million children are involved in child labour, depriving them of their childhood. One in every four households in Pakistan employs a child in domestic work, predominantly girls, aged 10 to 14 years. Additionally, a subset of these children is trapped in cycles of bonded labour even with legislation against the employment of children. The campaign iterates the importance of the access to education and child protection to create opportunities for children and establish protection mechanisms to prevent the exploitation of child labour in Pakistan. NCHR is in the process of developing a policy brief on bonded labour in rural Punjab and Sindh to highlight the menace of child labour in the country. International Day for Countering Hate Speech For decades, Pakistan has been battling the effects of hate speech, particularly against religious and ethnic minorities, women, and other marginalised groups. Violence has continued to escalate, and countless lives have been destroyed. In recent years, hate speech and subsequent incitement to violence has moved into the online space, where its incidence has grown exponentially, and where perpetrators enjoy relative impunity for their actions. To create awareness on the impact of hate speech, the International Day for Countering Hate Speech was marked in 2022 for the first time. 31
