Dr. Nomita Halder, ndc Honorary Member Dr Nomita Halder ndc is a permanent resident of Bagerhat district. She joined the National Human Rights Commission on 22nd September 2019 just after retiring from Bangladesh Civil Service. She belongs to the BCS Administration Cadre (7th batch) and served the government for about 31 years. Starting her career as an Assistant Commissioner and Magistrate she worked both at the local and central government indifferent capacities. Along with land administration she conducted criminal courtsfor a long time. As Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), serving the rural disadvantaged people was her priority. Shewas a successful Project Director of Empowerment and Protection of Children (EPC) project. Awareness building against child marriage, dowry, children and women trafficking, all kinds of abuse and violence were significant tasks of that project. She had special attention to work with vulnerable, disadvantaged and marginalized poor women and children. In 2014, Nomita Halder was appointed as the Private Secretary of Sheikh Hasina, the honorable Prime Minister of Bangladesh. Working with the Chief Executive and top most Political Master of Bangladesh was her life time opportunity. She was acquainted with the political culture, systems and parliamentary affairs during that period. Arranging private visits of the Prime Minister with veteran political activists and other visitors was one of her daily schedules. She attended many bilateral meetings with the Prime Minister during her foreign tours and thus she acquired rare experience on political orientations. Dr Halder was promoted as Secretary in July 2017 and appointed to the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare & Overseas Employment. She was highly engaged in improving migration governance that includes prevention of human trafficking. She worked hard to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal on regular, orderly and safe migration. Dr Nomita Halder ndc was graduated in Agriculture from Bangladesh Agricultural University. Later she did an MA on Development Administration from the Australian National University. Finally, she did her PhD on ‘Effective Representation of Women Legislators in Parliaments’ from the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand. From an agro-based academic background she worked inexecutive branch and lately she has taken the position of a Faculty Member in Political Scienceand Sociology Department of North South University, Dhaka. She is strongly committed to promote human rights issues. Her husband Dr. Md. Azizul Haque is an Agricultural Scientist. 47
