Recommendation The Malaysian judiciary – civil and syariah – is key to the fulfilment of Malaysia’s human rights obligations, and significantly contributes to the respect for human rights in Malaysia. SUHAKAM is keen to assist both the civil and syariah courts, especially with the application of human rights standards, to ensure access to justice and to protect fundamental liberties for all. In this regard, SUHAKAM would also welcome cases, particularly those involving complex or emerging human rights issues from the Malaysian public. CHAPTER 1 • • 35
