Myanmar Since 2012, the APF has worked with the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission on the development of legislation to formalise the NHRI through an Act of Parliament. The Parliament of Myanmar, the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw, passed the founding legislation for the Commission (Law No.21/2014 of 28 March 2014) and it was published in the State newspapers in Myanmar language on 5 April 2014. Taiwan On 21 and 23-25 April 2014, the APF participated in a national workshop on the establishment of a NHRI in Taiwan. The workshop included human rights NGOs, representatives from the Control Yuan (Ombudsman’s Office), members of the President’s Human Rights Advisory Council, and the Ministry of Justice. The APF conducted a session on the Paris Principles, highlighting specific principles and General Observations, and potential difficulties these might involve when applied to Taiwan. The APF met with the Vice-President of Taiwan to discuss the establishment of a NHRI and constitutional challenges. The APF also met with various members of Parliament and the leader of the human rights caucus in the Congress, Mei-Nu Yu. 3. Promote compliance with the Paris Principles | 35
