Komnas HAM RI together with the General Election Commission of the Republic of Indonesia (KPU RI) and the General Election Supervisory Body of the Republic of Indonesia (Bawaslu RI) declared Human Rights Friendly Elections. This declaration aims to ensure that there is no neglect of the rights of vulnerable groups in the 2024 election. This declaration was implemented at the office of Komnas HAM RI on 11 June 2023. Then, the Commission held another meeting and explored cooperation with the Indonesian Bawaslu. It is expected that this meeting will create supervisory synergy to ensure that no voter’s rights, especially voters from vulnerable groups, have their rights violated. In an effort to anticipate the election year, the Commission collaborates with the West Java Regional Police in organizing a Focus Group Discussion with the theme “Perspectives on Protecting Human Rights in the Implementation of the 2024 Election.” Then, the Commission also carried out monitoring in several regions in Indonesia. The aim of this monitoring is to investigate further preparations for the 2024 election to ensure the rights of vulnerable groups. At the same time, Komnas HAM RI also uses social media to strengthen messages and expand audience reach regarding the importance of election that are responsive to human rights. Furthermore, the Commission’s Friendly Election Team together with the Tim Tanggap Rasa held a Zoom webinar. This activity aims to reach millennial voters and generation Z who represent 114 million voters - an equivalent to almost 60% of voters. It is expected that the implementation of this Zoom webinar will strengthen the awareness of young groups as first-time voters who have a significant contribution to determining the future of the Indonesian state, including the promotion and protection of human rights. SNP ON HUMAN RIGHTS AND ELECTION TO BE USED AS POLICY REFERENCE The SNP has been used as a reference by the West Kalimantan Provincial Government in formulating the Circular Letter of the Governor of West Kalimantan. This is stated in Circular Letter Number 200/5334/KESBANGPOL-C dated 20 November 2023 which was addressed to the KPU of West Kalimantan Province, the Chairperson of the Bawaslu of West Kalimantan Province, and the Regents/Mayors throughout West Kalimantan. This Circular aim to encourage the holding of elections that are free and fair and respect human rights principles, especially regarding the participation of vulnerable groups in the 2024 General and Regional Elections.
