In the aftermath of the partial demolition, President Aquino allocated PHP450 million to directly assist in the resettlement of the North Triangle community. From this point respondents reported to have been working directly with the DILG to implement a plan for community-based resettlement. They have conceded to an off-site resettlement option, at a location of their choosing within the NCR, and are presently in negotiations with landowners of potential sites for the resettlement. At present there are approximately 5,000 families still residing in the site in North Triangle. The SRCC-NTA is a particularly well-organised community with a long history of formal organisation and government engagement. The community’s level of organisation and formal association with other civil society groups has also increased their knowledge of legal measures available to them to stop evictions, including the various protections under the UDHA. Through these civil society connections they have also been able to engage competent legal representation and file temporary restraining orders to prevent their eviction on a number of occasions. They are noticeably adversarial and generally unwilling to submit to government pressure to relocate on terms unfavourable to them.
