Strengthening NHRI gender equality practice through online learning In November 2024, forty-eight participants from 23 NHRIs took part in a four-week online NHRI Gender Equality Programme as an immediate follow-up to the 2024 Gender Baseline Assessment. The course, hosted on APF’s learning platform, combined an updated “Gender Equality for NHRIs” module and optional micro-courses with weekly live sessions in two time-zone streams, supported by Arabic and Russian interpretation and integrating content on climate change and human rights defenders. Survey results showed clear gains in confidence to apply a gender lens to institutional work and strategies. Participants reported concrete follow-up actions, including internal trainings, integrating gender equality into strategic plans and audits, and mainstreaming gender across programmes, inquiries and reports. The programme has laid the groundwork for continued online engagement and tailored support as NHRIs develop and implement their own gender equality strategies.
