Media Handbook for National Human Rights Institutions Acknowledgements The APF is pleased to present the Media Handbook for National Human Rights Institutions. This Handbook was written by James Iliffe, a consultant to the APF with extensive experience leading media and communications programmes for the Australian Human Rights Commission, the New Zealand Human Rights Commission and a wide range of civil society organizations. He also co-leads the APF’s media and communications training programme for member institutions. Shyamla Eswaran provided research and editorial assistance to prepare the initial draft of the Handbook. A peer reference group, comprised of skilled media and communications practitioners from APF member institutions, was established to inform the structure and contents of the Handbook. The following members of the peer reference group provided input, feedback and case studies: Louise McDermott (Australia); Khan Md. Rabiul Alam (Bangladesh); Pei Hsi (Malaysia); Saajidha Majdhee (Maldives), Zoljargal Gantumur (Mongolia); Shree Ram Adhikari (Nepal); Gilbert Wong (New Zealand); and Majeed Sawalha (Palestine). The Handbook was also enriched through comments provided by Professor Judy McGregor, former Equal Employment Opportunities Commissioner with the New Zealand Human Rights Commission, former newspaper editor and current Head of School of Social Sciences and Public Policy at Auckland University of Technology.
