Annual Report 2013 interest in the human rights problems in North Korea. 4) Promoting Domestic Cooperation (1) Operation of the North Korean Human Rights Forum In May 2008, the Commission formed the North Korean Human Rights Forum composed of experts on North Korean human rights from academia, legal circle, the media, and civil society groups. The Forum provides a venue for the systematic development of policies on North Korean human rights by promoting communication on major issues and expanding the horizon of their awareness. The Forum also activates social discussion of various human rights issues. In 2013, the Commission designated 43 people as members of the Forum, and hosted four meetings, a meeting per quarter. The meetings dealt with different themes: Settlement in Korea of North Korean Defectors and Improvement Measures at the 18th meeting (April 12-13); International Trends on North Korean Human Rights and Reactive Measures at the 19th meeting (June 19); Korean Peninsula Reliability Process and Its Implications on Policies and Proposals on the Human Rights in North Korea at the 20th meeting (October 18); and the Status of the Right of Equality in North Korean Society at the 21st meeting (December 2).
