5. These activities form the basis of this report which provides an overview of the key issues affecting older persons in the country. Activities that were conducted in 2013 were as follows: Ageing in Malaysia 6. According to the data provided by the Department of Statistics Malaysia in 2012, there is a total of 2,438,700 older persons (60+) in Malaysia, and this number is predicted to increase5 due to, among others, improvements in the delivery of healthcare services. In 2012, the average life expectancy was 72.3-year-old for male and 77.2-year-old for female.
