This type of home provides shelter and rehabilitation for the poor/
destitute persons. According to data provided by the Department of
Social Welfare Malaysia, as of 30 December 2013, the total number of
residents in 2013 is 971 comprising 640 males and 331 females.

Pusat Aktiviti Warga Emas (PAWE)/Senior Citizen Activity Centre
The service is provided for persons of 60-years and above who
are able to look after him/herself. The centre is managed by local
communities and government agencies. Altogether, there are 22
Senior Citizens Activity Centres in Malaysia. The services provided
include social, recreational and economy empowerment programmes.
Lifelong learning programmes are also provided at the senior citizen
activity centres. Members of the centres are mainly female and with
the highest participation from the Chinese community. (Please see

citizen activity centre by gender and race, 2013)
