Role of Faith-based Organizations in Promoting
Mental Health in Their Communities
Introduction:
• In Section 2, we focus our attention on mental illness, common
misconceptions, as well as stigma surrounding mental illness. In Section
3, we will discuss the role of faith-based organizations and their leaders in
promoting mental health and well-being in their communities.
Learning Objective:
• At the end of the session, the participants will be able to:
- Know the important role of faith-based organizations and their leaders
in promoting mental health and well-being
- Learn in which ways faith-based groups can promote mental health and
well-being in their community
Activity 3
• Divide the group into three, ask the group to discuss among themselves:
- What role do faith-based organizations and their leaders have in
promoting mental health and well-being in their respective communities?
- What can faith-based organizations do to promote mental health and
well-being in their communities?
• Ask one representative from the group to summarize what the group has
discussed.
Role of Faith-Based Organizations in Ensuring the Mental
Health and Well-being of the Community
• Faith-based organizations are in a unique position due to their physical
proximity to underserved populations. Faith communities’ grassroots
