9 | Conditions of detention 9.4 Access to computers Desktop computers were in a dedicated room in the main complex and within each of the high security compounds. Several of the people interviewed in Hawk and Falcon expressed frustration over the lack of computer access. The Commission inspected the computer room that was available for general population and observed that there were several computers out of service and all still operating on a Windows 7 system. The lack of computer access has significant impacts on a person’s ability to receive or send important documents regarding their visa applications or court cases. Figure 22: computer room 62 RECOMMENDATION 33: The Department and Serco should explore options for providing additional computer terminals in the YHIDC accommodation compounds and common areas, ensure their regular maintenance and update their operating system.
