2.9 Reviewing mechanisms for handling teacher-student violence on campus Reason for selection 1. In Point 32 of the concluding observations on Taiwan’s Second National Report on the CRC, the IRC recommends that the government continue to invest in training teachers, social workers, and other professionals skilled in dealing with children and the youth. The IRC also recommends that the government conduct a study to explore the root causes of violence against children and the percentage of violent incidents that were actually reported. Significance 2. Pursuant to Point 32 of the IRC’s concluding observations and Point 79, 81, and 82 of the NHRC’s independent opinions on Taiwan’s Second National Report on the CRC, the government should conduct research into bullying incidents, corporal punishment, discriminatory behavior, and inappropriate disciplinary measures imposed by educators and student club teachers on K-12 campuses in order to understand the root cause and typology of violent incidents and review whether the current reporting, investigation, and counseling channels are effective in preventing such incidents.
