Complaint No. Suo Moto Dha- 33/22 Media reported that prisoners were being tortured in Narshingdi Prison. Even a prisoner named Fazar Ali died due to torture. Besides, yaba pills and other drugs had been available in prison. NHRC expressed concern over this issue and opined that proper and strict actions might be taken to prevent this. Thus, NHRC sent letter to Security Services Division of Ministry of Home Affairs to take action against those involved in this crime. Complaint No. Suo Moto Dha- 37/22 On 26th December 2022 media reported that toxic smoke from brick kilns damaged protected forest areas and environment in Ghatail, Tangail. As per law, fire wood is totally banned and declared illegal for brick kiln purpose. Despite this, how could anyone use firewood for brick kiln was not understood by NHRC. So, it is important to identity who are involved in this illegal task. NHRC sent letter to Director General of Department of Environment to take legal action on this incident. Complaint No. Suo Moto Dha-39/22 On 27th December 2022 media reported that female garments workers were facing harassment and eve-teasing in Savar. They could not lodge complaints in police station due to fear of local powerful people. NHRC raised concern over this and sent letter to Additional Inspector General of Police, Industrial Police Headquarters, Dhaka to investigate, take action and inform NHRC. Complaint No. Suo Moto Dha-08/22 On 22 January 2022 media reported that Rokeya Begum, an age-old widow and childless woman had no earnings and food to eat. She had not received any government allowance. NHRC sent letter to UNO of Saltha, Faridpur to arrange house and widow/old allowance and inform NHRC. UNO sent report to NHRC that a house had been built for Rokeya Begum. Complaint No. Suo Moto Dha-30/21 On 30th October 2021 media reported that two children had been deprived of their rights despite belonging to a wealthy family in Gazipur. After the death of their father, their paternal uncle kicked them out of their house. Before one month of their father’s death, their father wanted divorce from their mother but it was not effective as he suddenly died. Their uncle misinterpreted this and said divorce had been effective and children did not have any right to enjoy their father’s property.
