MODULE 1
Perception of Mental Illness
Activity 1. Perception of Mental Health
Purpose:
To determine the extent of knowledge that participants may have
about mental health.
Materials:
Cartolina, pentel pen, masking tape
Time:
15 minutes
Instruction:
Participants will write down their perception of mental health.
They can write all the answers possible that come to mind. It
should also be relayed that there are no right or wrong answers.
Once time is up, ask the participants to categorize it as either
a myth or a fact. Each answer should then be discussed. This
activity serves to demystify existing myths and misconceptions
about mental illness. The sources of these wrong beliefs should
also be gathered whether it be family, friends, or social media.
Activity 2. Stigma

To probe into the concept of stigma and its repercussions
Materials:
PowerPoint presentation, projector
Time:
15 minutes
Instruction:
Ask the participants the following questions and discuss their
answers.
1. What is stigma?
Participants must be informed of this, most especially those who have
displayed discriminatory attitudes at one point or another. Also, it’s important
that they are able to identify these attitudes or behaviors, identify where they
came from, their harmful effects, and how to change these attitudes.
