NATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION, INDIA 2.11 Human Rights Day Function is celebrated by the Commission on 10th of December every year to commemorate the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations General Assembly by organizing a special function. As the culminary function of the Silver Jubilee of the Commission, this year i.e. in 2018, the National Human Rights Commission celebrated ‘Human Rights Day’ on 10 December, 2018 at Dr. D.S. Kothari Auditorium, DRDO Bhawan, Rajaji Marg, New Delhi. Shri Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Hon’ble Union Minister of Minority Affairs, Government of India was the Chief Guest on the occasion. NHRC Silver Jubilee Celebrations 2.12 As part of the Silver Jubilee Celebrations, the National Human Rights Commission also organised various events. A one day International Human Rights Conclave was organised in New Delhi on 1 October, 2018, at The Ashok Hotel, New Delhi which was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Vice President of India, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu. This Conclave was aimed at providing a platform to National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs), regional networks of NHRIs, the Global Alliance of NHRIs (GANHRI), government, SHRCs, NGOs and other stakeholders to share their views, experiences, challenges, and the best practices on the important thematic human rights issues. The Silver Jubilee Lecture was organised in New Delhi on 10 September, 2018, which had distinguished participants from the Government, NGOs, diplomatic Corps etc. Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, Shri Kailash Sathyarthi was the Chief Guest and, Dr Ajay Mathur, Director General of The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), and Shri Prakash Singh, former Director General of Police (DGP), BSF, (UP and Assam), were the Guests of Honour on the occasion.
