NATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION, INDIA v. The Member of German Parliament & Federal Govt. Commissioner for Human Rights Policy and Humanitarian Aid at the Federal Foreign Office visited the Commission on 23 October, 2018 for an interaction with NHRC India for an overview of India’s human rights initiatives and the role of the NHRC in the year of its Silver Jubilee. vi. The World Organization Against Torture (OMCT) from Geneva, Switzerland visited the Commission on 25 October, 2018 for a formal meeting to discuss the matters relevant to the OMCT’s mandate, including the ratification of the UN Convention against Torture. vii. The Embassy of Norway visited NHRC, India on 30 January, 2019 for a courtesy meeting with Chairperson. viii. A Delegation from British High Commission, New Delhi and British Dy. High Commission, Mumbai visited NHRC on 5 February, 2019 for a meeting with Secretary General, NHRC to discuss on how to work together in the context of open cases where British Nationals have raised torture and mistreatment. ix. The NHRC Nepal delegation visited NHRC, India from 4 - 5 February, 2019 to have a briefing and sharing regarding the operation, protection, promotion and law review process of NHRC India and to get the practical knowledge in term of overall process of protection and promotion of human rights and understand its management better. x. A Japanese Delegation alongwith the Bar Association of India visited the NHRC, India on 8 February, 2019 for an interaction with the Member and officers of the NHRC on human rights issues and areas of work pertaining to the NHRC. Miscellaneous 2.58 Strategic Plan and Annual Action Plan: The NHRC India has evolved a comprehensive institutional mechanism of an Annual Action Plan (2018-19) and a three-year Strategic Plan for 2018-2021 to streamline the Commission’s work more effectively. One of the key objectives of these plans is to further strengthen the Commission’s engagement with NGOs, Human Rights Defenders, and Civil Society actors, and to make the existing mechanisms even more robust within its mandate. Our Focus areas are on Bonded & child labour issues, human dignity for all, protection of rights of the people from marginalized sections of society, prison reforms, women & child rights, rights of disabled, elderly, LGBTI rights, environment protection, health care & mental health, human rights education, good governance, business & human rights, actively engage with the human right defenders, NGOs/civil society and encourage research on the same. It also encourages spread of awareness and work with all the stakeholder for improvement in laws & schemes to promote and protect human rights.
